Lewis and Clark Trout Unlimited Chapter Conservation News

As mentioned in the Winter 2009-10 President's Message (see the home page), Montana's Junior Senator, Jon Tester, is about to introduce a bill in Washington that would create new wilderness in Montana for the first time in many years. We encourage you to formulate your own opinion about the bill by reading it yourself. Here is a link to his website. The bill is about more than wilderness, however. It is also about logging, recreation, and managing our forests and the headwaters of many of Montana's precious waterways.

To read the letter the LCTU Board sent Senator Tester, click HERE. In the letter, we attempt to communicate what we like about the bill and what we wish could change. We recognize that there are forces against Senator Tester's bill representing the divergent points of view of Montanan's throughout the state. One thing that cannot be argued is that Senator Tester has attempted to collaborate with multiple interests throughout the state to arrive at a bill balancing points of view that are historically antipodal. Such intestinal fortitude is to be commended in its own right, regardless of how one feels about the bill itself.
